시오자와 카렌

1998년 가나가와에서 태어난 카렌 시오자와는 어린 시절을 네덜란드에서 보냈으며, 도쿄 조케이 대학에서 조형 미술을 연구하며 대학원 과정을 수료했다. 시오자와는 그녀의 작업을 통해 매개되는 소통의 영역을 확장하고자 지속적으로 노력하고 있으며, 어린 시절의 기억과 일상의 감정을 2차원 작품에 투영하는 동시에 소리나 빛 등 3차원의 입체적인 형태를 이용한 표현 방식을 배양하여 시각 이외의 수단을 통해 인식되는 세계를 표현하고자 한다. 그녀는 2018년 도쿄 국립 아트센터에서 열린 Best Formative Art Prize를 수상했으며, 2022년에는 도쿄 메트로폴리탄 미술관에서 열린 제48회 아트 페스티벌 도쿄텐 전시회에서 우수상을 수상한 바 있다. 2020년에는 중국 데지 미술관에서 그녀의 작품을 소장하였다.

현실의 진정한 세계 - 그것은 한때 존재했을지도 모르는 세계의 기억이거나, 내가 아직 보지 못한 미래의 모습일 것이다. 내 작품을 본 사람들은 무수히 존재할 수 있는 세계를 인식하고, 그 세계의 틈사이로 보이는 눈부시고 헤아릴 수 없는 공간에 감탄하거나 향수를 느낄 수 있으며, 이를 통해 많은 상상의 문을 열 수 있다. 사람들의 의식을 의식으로, 인식을 인식으로 연결하여, 현실에서는 알아채지 못했던 마음의 소리를 담을 수 있는 작품을 만들고 싶다.
