Being aware of the real world that self-consciousness cannot visually acknowledge, people are living wrapped in the texture of shadow that made when the world is lightened. Those who encounter my works realize the myriad of worlds possibly exist, conceive longing and nostalgia for immeasurable bright expanding that could be seen between the world, and enable to open many doors of imagination as I knocked the doors of dream with my musical box as a child. Once the door got opened, the sound of light always echoed. Consciousness is brought to the promised land by inhabitants of the dancing shadows.

Karen Shiozawa spent several years of her youth in the Netherlands and currently studies at The Graduate School of Tokyo Zokei University. Shiozawa has been seeking to expand the fields of communication mediated through her works. While projecting her memories of youth and everyday feelings into the two-dimensional works and aiming to represent the world sensed by other than vision, she has been cultivating the ways of expression interacted with sound, light, and three-dimensions.

The theme of this exhibition is “In search of scenery in human memories and depth of hearts”. Shiozawa, an artist who listens to the inner voices of people’s hearts that easily overlooked in our reality and whose creation has been shown as a “bridge” between perception and recognition of people, is about to open a new frontier of imagination. Each work is a fragment constructing the world, a sound of light, and also a voice – hoping that light will offer brightness to your everyday sceneries and make them look different from usual.
