About the Company

Founded in the heart of Tokyo in 1967, Whitestone Gallery has been a pioneer gallery in the Japanese art scene, specializing in post-war and contemporary art. With extensive expertise in East Asian post-war period artists and art movements, we hope to create a new dialogue in the relationship between contemporary and modern art in Asia by adding more diversity to the multicultural art scene globally. For that purpose, our gallery has locations in Hong Kong, Taipei, Tokyo, Karuizawa and is now expanding to Beijing, Seoul, and Singapore in 2023.

Art Advisor

We are looking for experienced art gallery sales and marketing staff to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a deep knowledge of the art world and experience working at an art gallery. They will be responsible for providing professional services in sales and overseeing the day-to-day operations of the gallery. They will also be responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with artists, collectors, and other galleries. Whitestone Gallery’s purpose is to bring in-depth exhibitions that explore Asian modern and contemporary art in conjunction with local art institutions and businesses.

Responsibilities
・Provide professional services and perform sales and receptionist duties at the gallery and overseas art fairs
・Transport artwork, install and de-install exhibitions, working with outside contractors as required
・Maintain the gallery’s visual appearance
・Stay up-to-date on trends and developments of represented artists

Requirements
・Business-level English proficiency (*fluency in more than one language is a plus)
・Must have 2+ years experience working at an art gallery or museum
・Must have experience in exhibition planning
・Able to work in a fast-paced environment
・Have a willingness to take on new challenges and be inquisitive
・High-level communication skills (empathetic, possess the ability to serve as a facilitator, provide peaceful resolutions)
・Working knowledge in Microsoft Excel

Art Advisor & Exhibition Designer

Responsibilities
· Provide a variety of design work for exhibitions based on a good understanding of exhibition needs and objectives, including requirements of artworks.
· Handle designing tasks such as making installation plan and designing exhibition posters, exhibition booklets, etc.
· Provide documentation and archival works upon completion of each project.
· Install and de-install exhibitions, working with outside contractors as necessary.
· Assist in gallery operation as an art advisor.
· Maintenance the cleanliness and order of the gallery.

Gallery Internship

We are looking for a detail-oriented, positive and reliable individual to join our team as a Gallery Intern. The ideal candidate will have basic knowledge of the art world and will be assisting day-to-day operations of the gallery. Whitestone Gallery’s purpose is to bring in-depth exhibitions to explore Asian modern and contemporary art in conjunction with local art institutions and businesses.

Responsibilities
・Assist in day-to-day operations as a receptionist at the gallery
・Assist in preparation of exhibition materials and marketing materials
・Maintain the gallery’s visual appearance

Requirements
・University students or recent graduates, preferably in art-related field
・Excellent command of oral and written English and Chinese (Japanese is a plus)
・Work experience in related field is preferred
・Able to work in a fast past environment
・Proficient knowledge in Microsoft and Adobe softwares
・Available for 3-4 days in a week
・Available from August to September 2023
