絵を描くとき、私は触れることのできないものを探している－乱舞する光、移動する空気、嵐の前の静けさ、など。この探究のさなかで、思いがけないものを見つけた。すなわち「香り」である

絵画と目に見えないものとの－そこでは、各々のカンヴァスが個人的な、特別な一枚となる。最終形としての絵画は、ドゥニのプロジェクト『風を描く』（調香師のウゴ・シャロンとのコラボレーションで製造されたフレグランスを絵画の一部に塗布）の本質を伝える。香りは風がそよぐようにたゆたい、言葉やイメージが捉えられないものを捉える。
展示される作品－『Oiseaux laissés pour trace (痕跡のための鳥)』などの現行シリーズから『Chroniques temporelle de Vétheuil I（ヴェトゥイユの儚い年代記 I）』といった大作に至るまで－は、この探究のものである。これらは、作家が「捉えられないもの」を掴もうとし、自然の律動に耳を澄まし、それを色彩とカタチに落とし込もうとした軌跡である。

The scent, titled Painting the wind n°1.6, bridges light and shadow in olfactory form. It opens with the crystalline whiteness of Aqual™, a captive aquatic molecule from MANE, evoking clear skies and early morning fog. This is joined by the pale green brightness of Cardamom JUNGLE ESSENCE™ from Guatemala, fresh and trembling like a new leaf. At its heart, the deep green of Canadian Fir Absolute anchors the composition, a grounding resinous note like moss in shadow. Finally, French Mimosa Absolute burns red—a pulse of solar warmth and nostalgia that lingers like a memory of skin or a sunset behind the eyelids.
MANE, the first French Group and one of the worldwide leaders of the Fragrance and Flavour industry, enhances Clément Denis’ exhibition at Whitestone Gallery by adding a unique olfactory dimension. Through bespoke creation PAINTING THE WIND 1.6 crafted by MANE Perfumer Ugo Charron, scent and painting merge to offer a multi-sensory experience that captivates and engages audiences, elevating the artist’s art to new heights.
