From the moment we are born, we breathe in harmony with water.
Much of the human body is composed of water, within which an endless current is always in motion. Blood flows, cells continuously expand and contract, and each breath fills the body like a gentle wave.
Breath is the wind that passes through us.

Though invisible, this wind stirs the water within, creating quiet ripples. These subtle movements merge with the rhythm of the heartbeat, resonate with our emotions, and compose the pulse of life itself.
Breathing unfolds like a waltz, tracing the rhythm of waves that ebb and flow.
Within this rhythm lies the delicate fluctuation that belongs only to living beings.

For me, water has symbolized freedom since childhood.
In water, boundaries become indistinct, and gravity loses its hold. I even forget that I am human and become part of the natural world. That sensation has never left me—it continues quietly within me, carried by every breath.

In The Waltz of Breath, I weave together the movement of water and the rhythm of breathing to express the invisible currents that exist within all life.
Perhaps tranquility is not found in stillness, but in constant circulation.
The wind passes through, the water ripples, and life continues its endless flow.

I hope this exhibition allows you to experience the quiet vitality and gentle joy that dwell within this serene cycle of life.

ARTIST

AIO

AIO (Ai Otsuka) made her debut as a singer-songwriter in 2003 and has spent over two decades creating a diverse body of musical work. Beyond music, she has long expressed her creative expression through picture books and illustrations. This journey has led her to embrace oil painting in 2020.

In 2024, she held her first solo exhibition, "AI OTSUKA 20th ANNIVERSARY ART EXHIBITION AIO ART," at Spiral Garden in Tokyo. The exhibition featured oil paintings, calligraphy, and flower arrangements inspired by her music, charting new territory between sound and visual art.

At the core of her visual work lies the fluid concept of water, where AIO translates the imagery in her imagination into harmonious compositions. Through her paintings, she expresses themes of the cyclical rhythm, emotion, and memory.
