Where Winter Meets Our Glow

Whitestone Gallery Seoul presents Where Winter Meets Our Glow, on view from December 13, 2025 to January 18, 2026. Featuring Oh Hyuckjin, Sunny Kim, and Kim Jak'young, the exhibition explores how memories leave emotional and sensory traces, expressed through painting, installation, and video work.
The exhibition begins with a single sentence on "memory," written by 37 creators from various artistic fields. Rooted in personal experience, these texts carry distinct times and emotions, which the three artists reinterpret through their own mediums. As these memories shift from individual stories to shared visual experiences, they reveal how the past continues to shape the present.
Oh Hyuckjin translates brief written recollections into paintings. Using gel stone and oil pastel, he creates textured surfaces softened by muted colors, allowing emotions that cannot be spoken to emerge through color and gesture.
Sunny Kim examines how memory accumulates and transforms through the physical behavior of light. Through transmission, reflection, and afterimages, she visualizes moments when traces of time and emotion surface within space. Her layered paper installation captures suspended light and time, offering a quiet, immersive encounter with fading and returning illumination.
Kim Jak'young, known for her music video direction, presents a nonlinear approach to time. By layering video through LED screens and projection, she weaves together moments that surface unexpectedly—like a fleeting scene, a scent-triggered emotion, or a dream—revealing how memories interrupt and reshape the present.
The exhibition includes a scent collaboration with UNVANISH, guiding visitors through a multisensory experience where visual impressions and fragrances echo one another. Where Winter Meets Our Glow presents memory not as something that disappears, but as an enduring presence that remains, overlaps, and connects our lives.
About the Artists

Oh Hyuckjin (b.1997) studied visual design before expanding his practice into painting, translating the grain of emotion into a distinct pictorial language. His works pair rough, uneven surfaces with warm, absorbing colors that reveal both the fragility and quiet resilience found in life. In this exhibition, Oh reinterprets written memories shared by 37 artists, transforming each text into an arrangement of color and texture. As the written tone becomes more restrained, the brushwork grows more pronounced, allowing emotional density and pictorial rhythm to surface with greater clarity.

Sunny Kim (b.1985), who majored in 3D design and photography, explores the relationship between material presence and sensory perception through the medium of light. She approaches light not merely as a physical phenomenon but as a sculptural element that delineates the boundaries of existence. In this exhibition, Kim presents a large-scale installation composed of layered paper that visualizes suspended moments of time and light. As light permeates and re-emerges through the material, the work unfolds into an immersive spatial experience, generating a cyclical rhythm that the viewer encounters within the space.

Kim Jak'young (b.1980) has long worked as a director in the music video industry, shaping the visual language of major K-pop artists such as EXO, Red Velvet, NewJeans, and NMIXX through her refined sense of color and precise framing. For this exhibition, she layers video imagery across LED screens and projections, allowing multiple viewpoints and emotional tones to overlap within a single frame. Instead of following linear time, the work drifts through the ebb and return of memory, guiding viewers into moments when feelings suddenly resurface in the quiet gaps of everyday life.
