Potentiality: Hwang Hyemi
Ginza gallery 3F
2026.06.05 - 06.28
My work begins with a contemplation of ‘Potentiality’—a force that is invisible yet undeniably present. Through the medium of silver, I seek to embody the inner strength that one silently accumulates during uncertain times, and the steadfast core maintained away from the gaze of others.
The spherical structures and petal-like units within the work capture the energy of a moment ‘on the verge of blooming.’ Because they have not yet fully opened, they exist in a state capable of containing all possible forms. I have recorded this ontological density—where energy reaches its peak—through the enduring firmness of silver.
The transparent glass dome serves as a device of boundary, creating a physical distance from the viewer. This distance encourages the audience to immerse themselves in the flow of thought within the work, rather than hastily defining or ‘completing’ its interpretation. Furthermore, the forms that proliferate through the reflection of the circular mirror symbolize the infinite expansiveness of the potential within us.
Through this exhibition, I do not intend to showcase the results of achievement or a brilliant full bloom. Instead, I wish to summon the ‘accumulated time’ of those who have kept their balance and believed in themselves despite the weight and hardships of life. I believe that the strength gathered within, which does not vanish even amidst wounds and uncertainty, will one day burst into a radiant light.
In front of this work, I sincerely hope you discover not ‘what you have become,’ but ‘what kind of being you can become’—and that the silent vibration of potentiality within you transforms into a beautiful light in its own time.

ARTIST
Born in Seoul in 1994, Hyemi Hwang received her M.F.A. in Metal Art from the Graduate School of Hongik University in 2020. In 2023, she was awarded the Young Artist Prize by the Korea Crafts Association and has received more than ten awards throughout her career. Her work was also included in a Korean middle school art textbook published in 2025.
Working primarily with silver, Hwang’s sculptures reveal a quiet yet powerful presence through their luminous surfaces and intricately refined details. Her practice centers on the concept of “potentiality”—an invisible yet undeniable force that exists within time and being.
Through delicate sculptural forms rendered in silver, she visualizes this unseen energy, creating works that invite viewers to reflect on the latent possibilities within themselves. Hwang’s work explores the depth of existence and the unseen potential that accumulates over time, suggesting that the potential already present within us may gradually unfold in each individual’s own time.
