TARO YAKUMO: KARUIZAWA COLORS
September 5 - September 30, 2018
Whitestone Gallery Karuizawa is pleased to announce Taro Yakumo’s exhibition—KARUIZAWA COLORS. The artist introduces himself as “a railway painting enthusiast” who enjoys painting trains and has been showing artwork based on local trains from various places. He exhibits paintings to understand Karuizawa, which is deeply connected to its history of railways. To open Karuizawa station, the highest elevation in Japan, as a Shinkansen station, people had several dangerous spots, such as the Usui Pass, in mind to build a railway. But the railways have been essential to making Karuizawa a prosperous summer resort.
We sincerely hope you enjoy the colorful Karuizawa painted from the new perspective of “a railway panting enthusiast,” Taro Yakumo. This exhibition will be a precious opportunity to connect art and railways fans.
