Whitestone Gallery Karuizawa is pleased to announce ARTIST miu's solo show: The Light. ARTIST miu's artwork is profound simultaneously clear. The panel, which is a cement-coated inorganic block, is just an empty substance: the resin coloured dot poured into the hollow of cement stands out more and attracts our attention. Regarding its charm, the artist mentions as “element of negativity” and “conversion of essence”. Her works are also characterized by a link to the contemporary society under a dark cloud:ARTIST miu’s twinkling coloured dots could hint at joy, hope, enjoyment, light, whereas cement parts could be shadow of the society.

ARTIST
Born in 1975 in Himeji, Hyogo Prefecture, ARTIST miu is a graduate of Takarazuka University of Art and Design Painting Course. She studied under Shozo Shimamoto, a former member of the Gutai Art Association, and learned the spirit of the Gutai - creating something that has yet to exist. Her works pursue the concept of converting the negative, cold element associated with cement into a positively charged art piece bursting with vitality to invoke love and hope in the minds of our modern society.
