“In vast accumulation of time-axis, we are not able to live a clean life. We feel this fact through innumerous eye.”— Sachiko Kamiki

Whitestone Ginza New Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of Sachiko Kamiki’s exhibition “Ultramarine Blue and Copper Red”. In 2017, Kamiki received a master’s degree at Joshibi University of Art and Design, with Fukuko Okubo Prize, given to the student who expressed outstanding talent. Following her first solo exhibition in Karuizawa New Art Museum last year, this will be Kamiki’s first exhibition in Tokyo. Through symbolic motives like flowers, plants or windows, Kamiki asks a question of the state of contemporary society, existence of individuality, and its reciprocal erosion. “Eye” is the new motif added to this time. As the exhibition title indicates, her brand-new work consists of repetitions and dialogues of two colors: ‘ultramarine blue’ and ‘copper red’. This dialogue is the crossing point of eyes not only between the artist and the viewer, but also between the artist and the inner self of the artist. In her wide perceptive world, dynamism of whole ‘physical sensation’ beyond visual perception is portrayed into the solid basis of tableaux technique. We cordially invite you to this precious opportunity.

KAMIKI SACHIKO
Born in Tokyo, studied at Joshibi University of Art and Design (Oil painting course), and got M.F.A in 2017 with "Fukuko Okubo Prize" (honorable mention from the University). In the same year, her debut solo exhibition was held at Karuizawa New Art Museum. In this regard, the prestigious monthly art magazine "Bijyutsutecho" (September Issue; 2017) ran an article about her interview. In 2018, her first solo exhibition in Tokyo was held at Whitestone Ginza New Gallery with favorable reviews. In the following year, her work graced the cover of "Monthly Gallery", new year's issue. In commemoration of the 85th Anniversary of Tokyu Department head store, her solo exhibition was held at Tokyu Department head store art gallery, ended up with "sold out" show. In 2020, the solo exhibition "TETRAD" was held at Whitestone Gallery Taipei. Kamiki's works ask the viewers about the modality of human beings and modern society through symbolic metaphors. They are characterized by her broad perspective reflecting the rich literary background and contradistinctive simultaneously harmonious coloration.
