Whitestone Gallery is pleased to present the joint exhibition "Allure" in Taipei of works by Yu KAWASHIMA (Japan), Fabio MODICA (Italy), and Yigal OZERI (Israel). The exhibition will showcase portraits paintings that are inspired by historical art movements, including classical Renaissance and Pre-Raphaelite. In parallel to western aesthetics, visitors will also have an impression of the eastern angle towards beauty in this exhibition. Opening on 13 July and view through 18 August 2019, the exhibition focuses on the study of the perception and comprehension of human characters. Artist Yu KAWASHIMA will be presented in the opening reception on 20 July 2019. Yu KAWASHIMA was born in Shizuoka in 1988. Regarded as the most promising artist in Japan, he has created monochromatic works with meticulously drawn lines, as well as the cold and inorganic-looking human figures that have ritualistic implications of the abyss of modern society. The emotionless expressions of the young female are his source of infinite imagination. KAWASHIMA strives to represent traditional Japanese paintings in a modern idiom in a sensitive but bold manner. KAWASHIMA has been particularly keen on studying black and has developed his method of causing chemical changes to some materials. His multi-dimensional approach to black enables him to explore various ways of expression. Fabio MODICA was born in Sicily, in 1978. Graduated from the University of Bologna, Fabio MODICA are inspired by the Classical Renaissance and mythologies. His works explore the human topography by depicting female faces and bodies. In 2002, his representational style moved towards a semi-abstracted texture with sheer lines and thick smudges of color. The painter is devoted to engaging art to self-awareness expansion and cerebral stimulation, inviting viewers to experience his transcendent works. Yigal OZERI was born in 1958, and best known for his large-scale cinematic portraits of distinctive young women in rich landscapes. With Pre-Raphaelite aesthetics, OZERI brings an ethereal and uninhibited sensibility to his paintings. His works denote art historical foundations in romanticism, while also offering notions of sensual femininity. He is in the permanent collections of The Whitney Museum of American Art, The McNay Art Museum in San Antonio, The Jewish Museum in New York, and the Albertina in Vienna.
