MAR MARMAR: Tabula Rasa
May 29 - June 23, 2019
Whitestone Gallery Karuizawa Gallery 3 is delighted to announce the solo show “Tabula Rasa” by Mar Marmar, commonly called “the artist of lines”.
She has been intrigued by lines since she discovered unexpectedly the joy of its creation by using marker pen on discarded cardboard in 2000. The artist considers lines as something belonging to the realm of intuition which occurs before “thinking about”: her lines represent an “instinct” of creatures without any prejudice as if an elephant painted eventually something on canvas grasping a paintbrush with his nose.
The way she is absorbed in creating lines makes the viewers feel pureness of art beyond the border. In the first two weeks from the inauguration of this exhibition, a gigantic piece of live drawing by the artist will be done in the gallery space. Besides, video works incorporating live performances as well as recent drawing photographs which capture the light will be displayed. We cordially invite you to come visit this precious opportunity and enjoy the unique world of “lines” by Mar Marmar.
*Live drawing is from 29th May (Wed) to 10th June (Mon); performance time is irregular. After the completion of the work, it will be showed during the exhibition period.
