Whitestone Gallery Karuizawa is pleased to announce the exhibition of the works by Sadamasa Motonaga.
The Gutai Art Association (a.k.a. GUTAI / active period: 1954-1972) is a world-renowned Japanese postwar avant-garde artist group. Sadamasa Motonaga (1922-2011), one of the leading artists in the early period of the group, was also widely recognized as picture book author like "Gacha Gacha Don Don" and "Mokera Mokera”. His painting style, filled with a sense of humor, has been supported by people of all ages.
This exhibition features about 45 works, including prints, rare paintings, and sculptures. Motonaga who proclaimed himself to be “Aho (idiot) School" kept creating works for everyone. We hope you will enjoy his rhythmic, lilting world of representation.
