우에마에 치유

우에마에 치유는 최근 몇 년간 높은 평가를 받고 있는 구타이와 그 시대의 가장 오래된 증인 중 한 명이다. 우에마에의 매력은 정교한 마티에르와 성찰적인 에너지를 축적하는 데 있다. 크레인 기사, 교토의 전통 염색 공장의 견습생 등 다양한 직업을 경험 한 우에마에는 먼저 중국의 남화(南畵, 난가: 18-19세기 일본에서 유행한 회화 양식)으로 시작해, 후에 유화로 전향했다. 1953년 우에마에는 요시하라를 만나게 되고, 그 이후로 구타이가 해산될 때까지 모든 전시회에 참여하게 된다. 페인팅 나이프로 섬세하게 패턴을 쌓아 만든 평면 작품, 섬세하게 봉제를 한 천 작품, 톱밥과 나무를 이용한 조각 등 그의 폭넓은 창작은 젊은 세월의 다양한 경험에서 비롯된다.
