Kinetic Art

From the beginning, Gutai was an art group that sought to create new forms of expression while making the most of materials. The active incorporation of new materials and the application of new technology became a major part of the group's activities in the latter half of the period. New members Minoru Yoshida, Norio Imai, and Yutaka Matsuda each took a different approach in creating works in this field. Here, industrial materials and products such as plastics, motors, chemical products, and fluorescent light bulbs are introduced into the work, creating works that have never been seen before.
