Whitestone Ginza New Gallery is pleased to announce the solo exhibition “unfinished―Morita Manabu by WOOD”.
More than brand-new 50 works created for this exhibition will be “junction points” where his process of so far and here and now have crossed each other: alterations of materials, diversified layers of coloration, and vicissitudes of his creation style itself―these so far elements will be reviewed as messages of the times and taken on different appearances in the phase of here and now.
The characters depicted by Morita are so-called “AI” and they are residents of the digital world. They live in voidness without the idea of distance, time, and gravity. Will any existing value be surely valid there? Possibly does even the notion of “finalization” not exist anymore? At the same time, a state of “unfinished”, which is in a sense equal to freedom, can remove any limiter. It is the sea of his street art where either any fear or rejection will be ceased.
We hope this exhibition will provide a precious opportunity for visitors to experience a mystical inexhaustible deep sea of the artist Morita Manabu by WOOD.

ARTIST
Playful styles, selection of mediums fit with the times―the works of Morita Manabu by WOOD, who is supported by not only young but also a wide range of generations, give the viewers a feeling of freedom unrelated to any medium. The tendency is especially remarkable in his usage of “white”, his representative color. “White”― the color of consequence, in which all the vivid colors are absorbed―accentuates three-dimensional charms to the works.
Apparently wearing a light atmosphere, his point of view increases profundity every time we look at; it is affected by his enormous amount of consumption of animations and comic strips from his childhood. His metallic sculptural work, looks as if the moment of birth were scooped out by the sharp-edged tool, features as contrast several scatters of green color simultaneously, emitting swinging time-axis. Thus, things in reality are simplified in unrealistic ways―it is also a kind of cartoon-like interpretation. On the other hand, his canvas works consist of multi-layered different mediums; they attract the viewers with its digital taste by evoking very “layers” in the production process of animation.
The world of Morita, which reflects his exquisite freestyle of life, has been giving a strong impact on various fields of people and receiving higher attention as an artist of the years to come.
