The word “Pie in the Sky” has continued to fascinate me. Drawing a picture is interesting because of its versatileness.

―Nobuko Watabiki

Whitestone Ginza New Gallery is pleased to present the solo exhibition of Nobuko Watabiki “Pie in the Sky”.

The world of Nobuko Watabiki, which is composed of versatile mediums such as Japanese paper, textile, and oil pastel, had caught people’s attention with its exquisite point of view derived from motives brimmed with intriguing expression. In 2008, the artist moved to Germany and since then, she has continued to be active based in Hamburg. On the background of Germany’s multicultural society which has actively accepted many immigrants, her theme beforehand “relationship between oneself and others” increased its accuracy. Furthermore, unprecedented vicissitudes such as the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011 and the pandemic of Covid-2019 within 10 years, brought the action to “paint” close to more a prayer-like wish to connect peoples.

The more accrues difficulties in the real world, the more almightiness of the painting comes under the close. Nobuko Watabiki, who declares that the meaning of her life is to paint, tries to attract “paradise” to our side through her creation.

We cordially invite you to visit this precious opportunity.
