FLORENTIJN HOFMAN: MORE Yellow

Ginza New Gallery

2023.06.16 - 07.15

INTRODUCTION

As represented by his enormous sized “Rubber Duck” which travelled all over the world, “yellow” has been one of the favorite colors for Hofman. Yellow is not only the brightest colors among the chromatic colors but also ties to positive chain of images like “playfulness”, “communication”, “auditory stimulation”, etc. In the first place, Hofman’s creative creed is to smooth the difficulties relating art away letting people easily access to it, and evoke pleasant memories from their childhood. He aims to challenge comfortableness of the viewers by recasting the simple perspective on quotidian object. “Fun-filled clarity” will be the universal aesthetics to surpass any boundary (race, religion, gender, age, etc.) and make it possible to intercommunicate beyond difference.

In this exhibition, based on his favorite color “yellow”, various animals of different shapes and dimensions wearing vibrant colors will be displayed in the gallery’s white cube. Playfulness of “yellow” will be amplified by the complementary effects of colors reflecting constant vicissitudes of viewer’s feeling. Luxuriant phases of reality that Hofman’s world embodies are without end.

FLORENTIJN HOFMAN

Never forgetting to stay open minded and be free as a big child.

The exhibition is about playing and being amazed and finding the child within yourself. Like sitting on your knees or lying on the floor and look at the world from a different perspective.
