Born in Nagano in 1984, Komatsu was involved with various wild animals in her childhood due to the natural environment in the neighborhood. With ample experience witnessing the death of animals, Komatsu has established her unique understanding of living and death. She started to learn copper- plate engraving during her time she studied at Joshibi College of Art and Design. At the age of 20, her painting ’49 days’ was widely appraised for its extraordinary skills and personality, which also open her gate of being a professional artist. Her artworks apply a powerful expression to focus on the subjects of holy beats which has the power of death. She outstanding performance led her to held solo exhibitions continuously in her hometown Nagano, including The Museum of Tetsu, Kitano Museum of Art Annex, and Ueda City Museum of Art. In 2014, she dedicated her work to Izumo Taisha Shrine, which elevated her art to an upper ground. In the same year, Komatsu collaborated with landscape designer Kazuyuki Ishihara and exhibited her Aritaporcelain guardian dog at Chelsea Flower Show in London; the work won the golden prize and entered the collection of British Museum. She also collaborated with HTC to create the VR interactive “Prayer”, which was shortlisted for the 76th Venice Film Festival VR Competition Unit.
