Within the water, all is silent.
Ever since I was a child, it’s been where my heart could breathe.
Moving my arms and legs like a fish, I would forget I was even human.
A world unfolded where words were never needed.

Water wavers. When I swim, ripples form, and I am swayed in return. Wind brushes the surface gently from the outside just like how meeting someone can gently stir the stillness inside. This wavering at times gentle, at times intense shifts in form as it flows.

Fu is wind.
Fu is wavering.
Fu is a tremble in the heart.

Water has no shape of its own, but reveals itself through the wind.
Emotions take shape and begin to shift gently awakened by the presence of another.
A wavering born within, and a wavering stirred by the wind of another.

To waver. To be touched.
There is Fu.
A soothing stillness.
Longing, carried softly in the breath of spring.

The word Fu holds within it the essence of all that flows, that shifts, and that connects.
This exhibition traces the intricate relationship between water and wind revealing how formless things come into being, transform, and quietly fade away.

I hope the silence carries a gentle wavering and that it quietly lingers in your heart.

ARTIST

Born on September 9, 1982, in Osaka, Japan.
Ai Otsuka made her debut as a singer-songwriter in 2003.
Over the past 20 years, she has continued her musical journey, creating a wide range of songs as if playing multiple roles by herself.

Alongside her music, she has also written and illustrated picture books.
In pursuit of a more multidimensional view of the arts, she began working seriously in oil painting in 2020.

In 2024, she released her first piano instrumental mini-album, “graine”.
From July 18 to 29 of the same year, she held her first solo exhibition, "AI OTSUKA 20th ANNIVERSARY ART EXHIBITION AIO ART," at Spiral Garden in Minami-Aoyama, Tokyo.

The exhibition explored new forms of expression that fuse music and visual art, featuring oil paintings, calligraphy, and flower arrangements themed around her songs, with a central focus on “Ai” — love — which is also her name.

Artistic Drive Otsuka's creative energy flows from an ever-surging well of imagery, but at the core lies the presence of “water.” By focusing on the water flowing within the body, as well as the water that exists outside of it, she transforms fragments of inner vision into melodies of water in constant motion.

Through repetition of physical gestures and surrounding patterns, her works emerge as harmonious currents— a visual embodiment of flow, rhythm, and inner resonance.
