PARK KI-WOONG: Future Superhero

Seoul

2025.07.25 - 08.24

Whitestone Gallery Seoul presents the solo exhibition Future Superhero by actor and artist Park Ki-woong from July 25 to August 24. By combining the emotional depth cultivated through his acting career with a distinctive artistic perspective, Park opens up a broader creative universe in this exhibition.

The title Future Superhero originates from a simple childhood belief: “I will be a superhero in the future.” This idea has remained with the artist as both a personal memory and a point of reflection. The project began with the hope that such belief could inspire courage in others. Rather than delivering clear answers, the works dwell in subtle and lingering emotions. Layered phrases and softened imagery form a landscape of memory that speaks to the heart before words can take shape.

The superhero that Park envisions is not a figure of extraordinary power, but an individual who tries not to lose their sense of direction, even when belief becomes fragile. This concept reflects the artist’s continued interest in human complexity, shaped by his experience of embodying diverse characters.

Park’s artistic exploration began with the ‘Villain’ series, in which he examined the inner lives of characters often cast in supporting roles. Through these works, he established a distinctive voice that continued to develop in his later ‘Montage’ and ‘Dissolve’ series. These introduced new painting techniques and offered fresh interpretations of familiar figures. In Future Superhero, Park builds on this foundation through a variety of media, including silkscreen and sculpture, to reflect on the meaning of heroism as a personal and enduring belief. This exhibition does not present a fixed story but unfolds as a quiet and persistent promise, inviting those who are just beginning or returning to their path.

At the same time, on the gallery’s second and third floors, Japanese artist and Kis-My-Ft2 member Senga Kento presents his solo exhibition Essence of Love. Though the two artists come from different disciplines, both explore deeply personal forms of expression through visual art, offering distinct and emotionally resonant perspectives.
