MIYAKO TERAKURA

Miyako Terakura was born in Gifu Prefecture in 1994. She graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts in 2017 and completed a Master’s degree in Crafts (Ceramics) at the same university in 2020. In 2018, she studied abroad at the Eugeniusz Geppert Academy of Art and Design in Wrocław, Poland, as an Erasmus+ scholar.

Using ceramic techniques such as hand-building with clay and casting with porcelain, she creates three-dimensional works with the motif of “children.” Children, as symbols of innocence and representations of our former selves, have the potential to resonate with our hearts as we navigate the complexities of the modern world—they are beings onto whom we can project our hopes and prayers.

Ceramics, transformed through firing from soft clay into a durable material that can outlast human life, serve as the medium for her exploration of the “child” within our hearts. Through this process, Terakura aims to create works that endure as vessels carrying our wishes and emotions into the future.
