LEE JAEHYUN

Born in Gyeonggi Province, South Korea in 1979, artist Lee Jaehyun began his artistic career in 2007 while studying architecture, working simultaneously in sculpture and painting. Initially focusing on sculpture using metal and ceramics, he began to fully develop his painting practice in 2018. Since then, he has been translating his unique sense of form onto canvas and even handcrafting metal frames to complement his works.

Through experimentation with various materials, Lee adopts a repetitive process of layering mixed media and oil paint. His works portray the everyday lives of people today by metaphorically depicting characters and objects. Notably, his distinctive color combinations and thick application of medium create rich textures and a vivid impression. The characters within his works each possess their own individuality, inviting the audience into dreamlike episodes rooted in everyday moments.

His three-dimensional textures and witty artistic style have captured the attention of audiences in Korea, contributing to his growing success. Furthermore, he is gaining recognition internationally through exhibitions and art fairs in cities such as Paris, Dubai, the Philippines, Hong Kong, and the United States.
