KOHEI KYOMORI
KOHEI KYOMORI
Born in 1985 in Ehime, Japan, Kohei Kyomori was raised in a dairy farming family in a rural area facing depopulation. He studied graphic design and fashion design before continuing his education in Milan, Italy. After returning to Japan, he worked as a graphic designer in Tokyo and later began creating contemporary art as a self-taught artist.
Focusing consistently on decorative culture as his central theme, Kyomori explores a wide range of ornamental forms and functions developed throughout human history, including those related to craft, faith, authority, and history. Working primarily in painting and sculpture, he investigates how decoration operates as a cultural and social device. In recent years, his practice has increasingly centered on the act of “adorning oneself,” examining the relationship between identity and surface.
