CAROLINE DENERVAUD

Caroline Denervaud (b. 1978, Lausanne, Switzerland) is a multidisciplinary artist living and working in Paris. With a background in contemporary and classical dance from the Laban Centre in London, she later studied fine arts at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris and fashion design at Studio Berçot.

Her work explores the intersection of movement and visual form. Known for her Traces—large-scale abstract paintings created through self-filmed dance performances—Denervaud uses the body as a tool for mark-making. Through casein painting and sometimes collage, she develops a language of abstraction that is both physical and emotional, grounded in rhythm, balance, and gesture.

She has exhibited internationally, with solo shows in Paris, New York, Boston, Los Angeles, Cully, Milan, Antwerp, Germantown, Marseille, London, Brussels, and Luxembourg. Group exhibitions include presentations in Miami, Paris, London, Shanghai, Marseille, New York, Los Angeles, Berlin, Hamburg, Istanbul, Melbourne, Arles, and Nice. Her collaborations include a mural for India Mahdavi in Saint-Tropez, a video and 100 traces installation for the Nomad Hotel in London, collaborations with fashion houses Chloé, Roksanda and Coralie Marabelle. She spoke at the Art Market Society (CAMS) at Columbia University to present her career and work. Her video performances have been featured at the Jeu de Paume Museum, and she has performed live in Paris, New York with dancer Adrien Dantou and at Teatro San Materno in Ascona with film maker Derrick Belcham.
